Last weekend we drove up to Umeå, a city in north of Sweden. We were going to host a seminar at MR-dagarna, Scandinavia´s largest human rights venue. It was an 8 hour drive from our office. We went on Thursday and was going to host a seminar on Friday. We were invited to talk about the situation in Uganda and it was a chance for us to raise awareness of the discriminations and killings that are happening on the LGBTI people in the country.
The seminar went well! Jonny did not only talk about the issues in Uganda, but he also discussed anti-gay laws. In the last few weeks, rumors have started to appear that a new anti-gay bill is about to be presented in Uganda. It is still hard to tell how it is going to affect the society this time.
Anyway, it was a very inspirational weekend with a lot of good discussions regarding LGBTI and human rights. There are so many organizations who are doing great things that are preventing discriminations around the world. Meeting them was a big part of the event.
We will gladly participate next year as well.
